Decided to try my luck today on another cache. Having dropped my fiancee off in Osbourne Village for a pedicure, I went to fill up with gas at the Co-op. Turning on the GPS, I decided to see what geocaches were nearby, so that I might have something to do while waiting.

To my surprise, there was a geocache virtually across the street! Not feeling particularily like leaving my car at the gas station (I get the feeling that other people trying to get into there may not appreciate it ), I took off in an attempt to cross the road.

Arguably the most difficult attempt in driving I did that day, evidently.

I first pulled into traffic (after waiting a lengthy time for traffic to ease up) and found a place to do a U-turn so that I could find my way into the parking lot that appeared to be beside the cache. Missing the turnoff (as always seems to happen whenever I'm trying to get somewhere), I pulled into the wrong place, and ended up in what looked like parking for a hotel or apartment. The numbered parking spots seemed to imply that this was not visitor parking. Pulling into traffic again, I went left and attempted a second time. SUCCESS! At long last (aka: almost 10 minutes to cross the friggin' road!), I had found parking. In retrospect, I probably could have saved a lot of time by just parking somewhere behind the gas station and running across the road... but traffic the way it was, that might have ended up worse .

Putting the car into park, I see several funky-looking trees, and while still seated in the car, spotted where I thought the cache would exactly be.

To my credit, I ended up being correct in the long run, but obtaining it took a few minutes longer than I figured.

Wandering to the coordinates, I discover how the cache got its namesake. I spent a few moments pondering why on EARTH a large spike would be driven there, but the pondering did not last long. There was a cache to find!

Finding this cache however had to wait a few moments. Although there wasn't a soul to be seen anywhere in the immediate vicinity, there were several cars across the street attempting to pull into traffic, their cars pointed DIRECTLY at me from across the road. Waiting for them to get into traffic, I proceeded to help myself up to the cache's hiding spot. I later learned that the method I used appeared to be the hint for this cache.

Thankfully, being as tall as I am, there was very little effort needed to gain access to the cache. Grabbing it, I pulled out the logsheet and signed me up a cache find. In goes a chainmail ball... and I'm happy as a clam. With a full 30 minutes to kill before needing to be back in Osbourne Village, to boot. Too bad I've found like... everything even remotely close to here at this point, so I spent that time killing time in the village .

However, having logged this cache so late, I notice that Tromelin has dropped the brand new TB "This Bugs for You!" into the cache. I'm wondering if perhaps the chainmail ball I dropped in assisted in the creation of it... but given the picture taken of it, I'm thinking that may be unlikely. Unless of course it's now a three-balled TB .


But thanks for giving me something to amuse myself with while killing some time today. I've been eyeing this cache for a while now, and am glad to have finally been in the area with enough time to go after it .
