Metroid

It's ubiquitous

Yeah I'm not going to put a whole lot into this particular page. Like... it's everywhere (yes that expectedly just links back to the main homepage). You're on Planet Zebeth, the site was based off of Metroid! The comic strip was conceived thanks to Metroid, and my avatar was inspired by Metroid (and Pokémon). It's Metroid!

And while not the very first video game I ever played (you'd need to go to classics for that, where you'll also find the Metroid NES cartridge), it certainly had the greatest impact on me.

Now, just to address it, really only because I don't think I have anywhere else on the site, me being trans. Samus being a girl... actually had no impact on that whatsoever, and was literally irrelevant to the fact. Y'see, when I first played Metroid, I don't know if it was because I was too young, or because I didn't grow up around people, but that Samus was a girl at the end, was just... ok. Like... no acknowledgement from me, she just was. Just yup, there's the heroine pic at the end of the game. I did read in the instruction manual that it referred to Samus as a guy, but honestly, I don't think I even put that together, it may have been too long since (and me being quite young) having read the manual to when I finished the game. It was just "yup, girl takes off her power suit at the end."

So that addressed... it was the atmosphere. It was the adventure. It was the discovery and exploration. I LIKE the fact that the game didn't have a map! I mean, how would she have a map of this mysterious planet that she's never been to, honestly? I suppose in later games, it could be explained as scanning the planet inside and out type of thing, so it could have been, but I'm glad they didn't. Did I make a map? I think I did slightly, but didn't bother keeping up with it or finishing it, if I recall. I just played the game SO MANY TIMES that the entire layout was just engrained in my skull. I did the obligatory bomb every single block and shoot every single wall panel, a grind that reading online, modern gamers seem to dislike. I hypothesize that it was because (at least in my small homestead), there was so few other things to grab your attention. You could focus on one task for 12 hours and it wasn't a thing, that was just an average saturday. So yah, spend 4 hours wandering down every single corridor, check every single block, adventure! Over and over and over again! I've said it before and I'll say it again, I could still just about count every single screen between the start of the game and the end, and what creatures on each of them. That's just... yus.

Metroid. Awesome.

But yah, I felt like I really did need to add this page in here still. Without it everone would have been like "lol u missed something." So the ubiquity of Metroid ^_^
